EOTD: Pinky Gold = MAC Melon piggy & Loreal Fiery

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Gahh I hate my fat ugly nose but I took this pic w my bb so I dont have it right just yet..

Anyway my outfit was pink and yellow so I wanted to use my MAC Melon piggy. It goes sooo good with pink.

My routine is always the same. Once you get the technique right, its so much easier to experiment with all colors. We all start somewhere! *Usually with neutrals*

In order of application:

Base = MAC paint pot in bare study using a flat prescriptives brush, looks like a concealer brush, very flat n smooth, luvs it!

Middle of eye= Melon piggie packed on with MAC brush 242 along lower lashline. A little goes a long way, but I buy a lot of pigment samples first. I hate to commit to a full size unless I have a trial run first, and this one deserved full size status!

I bought 1/4 teaspoon piggie samples on www.thebodyneeds.com. Freakin awesome and only $1.79-$2.09 each in little jars. Most of the samples I bought I havent even used up yet, and they have lasted a year or more. Most of these colors you dont use daily anyway.

Outer third of eye = I absolutely love the new Loreal Hip Pigments. They're just as good as MAC in cuter, smaller containers and they are just as pigmented. I used the pink pigment called fiery, its the best pink pigment I've found, but I'm a serious pink girl. I packed it on with the MAC 239 shader brush and tried not to go up too far, but with big ol fluffy eyelids you have to go up far enough. Dont be afraid of that outer corner!

Outer corner = I use a combination of brushes. I like my MaryKay crease brush the best because it's the softest, and dipped into a mid deep purple MAC shadow Fig (newly added to my collection) and sweep up and out, staying in a line but not extending too far up. I used to sweep along my fake creaseline but I'll show you pics where I've done that and trust me, the results of NOT creating a fake crease are much better! Then I pick up one of my absolute fave brushes, my Sonia Kashuk (ala Target) squirrel brush, which is probably called a blending brush but it looks like a squirrel to me. I bought it in a full set around Christmas time for about $20, and I bought it again for my younger sis (actually accidentally bought it for her 2 yrs in a row for Christmas.. thats how great of a deal I think it is!)

Inner corner to middle of eye = I use a light color for the inner eye, depending on the color scheme of the look, this time I used MAC shroom, an off white cream with shimmer. I usually use a fluffy brush to swirl around from the inner corner to the fake crease I would have if I was a normal lidded girl, (dont wanna walk around with patchy spots cuz that aint the bizness) and tie up all the loose ends.

Brow highlight
= upper crease area up to the browbone, used to use a lot of whites and shimmer but I'm starting to see how unnatural that looks so I've switched over to MAC vanilla, which is shimmerless and MAC dazzlelights which is like vanilla but it has a shimmer to it.

Finish up with another sweep of melon and pink to make sure you're not gonna fade, and you're good to go!

Covergirl Starlighting - new shimmery white eyeliner

My new white/silver eyeliner by Covergirl. Although I love my MAC, I'm all about bargain shopping for makeup where you can get away with it, and with this being under $6, this is definitely a better option than going for some expensive MAC eyeliner.

This is a girls best friend for lower lashline. Something about white eyeliner always makes it look so much better than not. Sometimes I'll use a concealer brush dipped in eyeshadow along the lower lashline under the white just to tie it all back together. I'm a sucker for exact matching!

Intro

So, since my obsessions rotate between makeup and bb themes, I have to allow myself an outlet for my makeup!

I know a lot of ppl have asked me how I do my eye makeup and I gather all sorts of information from all sorts of sources so I might as well share the wealth of info I have, right?

I'm SO not a video vixen, and I don't like watching video tutorials either. I know, old school, but unfortunately most of the time I'm near a computer I dont want anyone to hear or see me watching videos on how to apply makeup anyway..

Guess I'll should start off with some of my fave pics and eye combinations.. I dont know how ppl manage to take super fantastic pics of their eye makeup but I'm gonna have to figure it out.

I almost want to put some of the old school pics so we can see the transformation as I learned what I was doing!

Love the gray, but I see I laid it on a little thick, with very little color gradient from inner to outer corner. But hey, at least my lines were straight!

The LOOK: I know this combo started with MAC shade stick in Beige-ing, because thats how I always started all my colors, it was the best base I had that would pop those MAC shadows. The cream stick is awesome because it allows you to use the pen to pretty much direct where you want to go. I apply lightly from my lashline and up to the crease, and usually blend the upper crease area with my finger so I dont end up with a visible line.

The inner eye area was washed with a MAC 252 brush with a bright silver I got at home but whose name I gotta dig up. I tend to not use the 252 brush too much anymore since it lays the color on really thick and makes it harder for me to blend. The trick is truly all in the technique. You can have all the tools in the world but you have to know how to use them correctly!

MAC knight divine, and then MAC club in the outer corners.
MAC Phloof as a highlight under the browbone.

Hard to say much more without remembering what I used, but hey it's a jumping off point!

Alrighty moving on. Here's my makeup when I wore my little Eskimo costume for Halloween. I don't do browns much, but this one didnt turn out too bad.

First off, my lashies are falsie strips, which were workin bombtastic before I started getting extensions applied.

My nail place actually does eyelash extensions for $80 for the first application and then $35 for a "fill" which is about once every 3 wks or so.

MAC beige-ing
MAC phloof as a highlight and up to my browbone
Stila Kitten (which is super pigmented and sparkly, and I typically stay away from now)
MAC tempting in the outer corners along lashline
